Hi, I'm David.
I've always admired the profound wisdom and effort that authors poured into their creations, shaping their thoughts into compelling narratives that capture the hearts and minds of readers.
Joining the Journey of Book Creation
For years, I believed authors were a mythical breed, possessing a unique or divine gift bestowed only upon a select few. But I quickly learned that this was a myth. Authorship is accessible to anyone willing to learn and commit.
From K-12 to college, I felt that the education system often approached writing in a way that was too methodical, too functional (i.e. just plain boring), and left little room for originality or authenticity. I longed for some kind of education that taught writers to embrace the uniqueness of their own voice.
Seeds for My Book Starts Here were sown when people around me suggested I should write a book. Initially, I shrugged off the idea. Yet, as the suggestion was repeated, the possibility sparked my interest.
I gave writing a try. But, I quickly found myself stuck. The first page, the first paragraph, even the first sentence seemed insurmountable. I felt paralyzed by my self-doubt, unable to bring my ideas to life. I didn't give up, I just took a different route first.
I spent almost a decade immersing myself in wisdom from literary masters, diving into works from ancient times to the present. I learned the evolution of writing through history, exploring everything from the first novels ever written to unpublished letters from famed authors discussing their craft.
Over time, this knowledge coalesced into an actual model that I could apply to my own writing, and with that, I found that the old barriers started to crumble.
From Doubt to Discovery: The First Manuscript
So I took the leap and wrote my first literary fiction book in just two months. It wasn't about fame or fortune or other dreams like that, I was driven by the sheer joy of pouring my thoughts and self into something tangible and meaningful. Holding my completed book in my hands was a testament to that journey, a symbol of overcoming barriers that once blocked the way.
I chose to independently publish my book, sharing it first with my family and friends. It was a nerve-wracking yet exciting process, releasing my thoughts and expressions into the world. The real validation came when people outside my immediate circle, even highly critical literature professors, lauded my work. It was an affirming moment that underscored the belief that I, too, could contribute value to the world through writing.
Through those two months of writing, I found that many online resources fell short. They were often generic, vague, and worse, dismissive of the true spirit that makes writing a profound human endeavor. I felt an increasing disdain for methodologies that viewed book writing as a mechanical assembly-line task, ignoring the depth and authenticity that writing inherently demands.
Books, to me, represent a larger human tradition, a time-tested and honored medium to share one of humanity's most profound currencies: storytelling. It's an art that shapes our collective understanding as a species on earth, connecting us to our past, and leading us into our futures. It's a celebration of who we are as humans, and the stories and knowledge that defines us.
Transformation Beyond Pages: A Personal Journey
The act of writing a book is a transformative experience. I wasn't expecting the profound personal growth that came with it. When I finished my first book, a surprising thing happened: my relationship with writing evolved, but my personal relationships, worldview, and entire life also underwent a tremendous shift.
Writing a book is a spiritual journey, however you choose to interpret what a spiritual life means. It leads to new depths of self-discovery, revealing aspects of yourself you hadn't ever seen before.
As you navigate through your book writing journey, you're building a deeper connection with yourself.
The act of writing is a practice of mindfulness, fostering clarity of thought, focus, and fulfillment. It brought me closer to my spiritual self and deepened my relationships. It illuminated my values and helped me redefine my priorities. I see writing not just as a craft, but also as a tool for personal evolution.
